The municipal district of Anargyroi in northern Greece has declared a state of emergency as an Amyntaio mountain mine landslide damaged ten homes and forced villagers to evacuate on Saturday.
Whole pieces of earth were detached from the mountain where the lignite mine is located at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The falling rocks and earth caused serious damage to ten homes. The Amyntaio mayor submitted a request for an autopsy to the Western Macedonia Region and after the approval it was forwarded to the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.
Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Nikos Toskas visited the suffering village and declared it in a state of emergency.
According to Regional Governor Theodoros Karypidis, “the decision of the minister is already announced to the residents during the visit that we held together in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias”.
The authorities decided that the village residents will spend the night in area hotels.
