The Independent Authority for Public Revenue has reported a decline in the amount of taxpayers filing their declarations by some 300,000 in comparison to this time last year.
Data released shows that up until Monday, June 12, only 2,588,596 tax declarations had been submitted, whereas some 2,861,4512 had submitted their declarations on the same day in 2016.
As the June 30 deadline approaches, many taxpayers are expecting that an extension will be granted and ekathimerini.com has reported that although the government has insisted that there will be no extensions this year, sources have said that collecting tax declarations is expected to conclude around July 30.
