Greek PM and Netanyahou Unveil Plaque for Holocaust Museum in Thessaloniki

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasides  attended the ceremony of the unveiling of the plaque for the Holocaust Museum in Thessaloniki by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday.
Tsipras said the aim of the museum is to keep alive the memory of the pain and suffering endured by Thessaloniki’s Jews.
“Before the second World War, almost half of Thessaloniki’s population was composed of Greeks of Jewish origin,” Tsipras said. The city’s Jewish community was the largest in Greece before it was crushed by the Nazis.
On his part, the Israeli leader said the museum will keep the memory of the Holocaust alive, and help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Tsipras, Netanyahu and Anastasiades are in Thessaloniki for a trilateral summit to take place late Wednesday afternoon in seeking to further strengthen ties between the three countries, including an undersea natural gas pipeline from Israel that would supply Europe.
Before the summit, the Greek and Israeli premiers and their respective staff had a separate meeting on Greece-Israel bilateral relations.
