Poll: Majority of Greeks Believe Gov't Lost in Deal With Creditors

The majority of Greek people believe that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras did not get what he claims in the agreement with creditors for the bailout program review, a new poll shows.
According to the survey of the University of Macedonia on behalf of Skai television, 71.5% of respondents said that the Greek government did not get a good deal in the last Eurogroup, despite what officials claim. Only 13% responded that Greece came out a winner.
The figures reflect disappointment with the government’s performance, which continues to decline. Syriza shows a further decline, standing at 15%, compared to 16.5% in the previous poll.
New Democracy appears to gain from the dissatisfaction with the government as voting intention went slightly up from last month (33% versus 32.5%).
The Greek Communist Party (KKE) came third in the poll with 7.5%, followed by Golden dawn at 7%, the Democratic Coalition (PASOK-DIMAR) with 6%. The remaining parties did not get the necessary 3% needed to enter the parliament.
Regarding the overall assessment of the agreement and the bailout program, 82.5% of respondents estimate that Greece has been condemned to persistent austerity, compared to only 10% who believe that after this decision Greece is on the way to coming out of the crisis.
On the debt issue, 77.5% responded negatively to the question whether the government is effectively negotiating a substantial reduction of public debt, with 16.5% of respondents responding positively.
When asked who would win the next election, New Democracy is overwhelmingly ahead of Syriza with 69.5% against 10.5%. Furthermore, the main opposition party chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis is favored over Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras as most appropriate for the premiership with 33% against 16%.
