Three years before he celebrates his centenary, Konstantinos Georgiadis achieved a life-long dream by earning himself a University degree in Sociology.
Mr. Georgiadis from Kokkinotrimithia, a small town west of Nicosia, was awarded the degree on Monday at the graduation ceremony of the University of Cyprus.
Teaching staff and guests burst into thunderous applause for the 97 year-old when he climbed onto the stage to receive the honors.
Dean of the University of Cyprus, Mr. Konstantinos Christofidis, praised his achievement and said that he embodies the maxim of ancient Athenian philosopher Solon: As I grow older, I constantly learn more.
Mr. Georgiadis has officially become the eldest graduate in Cyprus.
According to reports, he is still eager to continue his studies by enrolling into a Law degree this coming September.
