Court's 2013 Ruling on Sorras' Case Overturned by Greece's Supreme Court

Greece’s Supreme Court has overturned a decision by the Misdemeanors Court of Athens in 2013 to acquit Artemis Sorras on charges of disseminating false information.
Artemis Sorras is a self-proclaimed trillionaire and the founder and leader of the political group “Assembly of Greeks.”
In 2013 Sorras appeared claiming to have access to his own personal fortune of 600 billions of euros and offered to repay Greece’s sovereign debt gripping the country for several years.
At the time, the Misdemeanors Court’s decision said that “There is nothing that proves that the money does not exist or the falseness of the titles incorporated.”
Sorras was recently sentenced in absentia to eight years in prison in March by a court in Patras on charges of embezzlement.
