5. The Samaria Gorge
Something ideal for families with older children is a trip to visit the Samaria Gorge.
It is 16 km long, and starts at an altitude of 1,250 meters at the northern entrance, and ending at the shores of the Libyan Sea in Agia Roumeli. It was declared a National Park in 1962 and attracts thousands of trekkers throughout the year.
The entrance to the gorge is located at Aghia Roumeli, at the southern side of the park.
