Following an initiation by regional officials, the National Park of Parnassos in Central Greece is in the first stages of having an application drafted to the United Nations agency to become Greece’s sixth UNESCO Global Geopark.

The UNESCO program for Global Geoparks aims to maintain these areas of land in a sustainable manner as well as give recognition to geographical areas.
