Turkish Nationalist Leader: 15 Aegean Islands Were Illegally Taken by Greece

Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Action Party (MHP), known as Gray Wolves, sent a threatening message to Athens saying that 15 islands are held by Greece “illegally and unfairly.”
According to Kathimerini, Bahcelii called on Greece not to try Turkey’s patience.
“If there are some who want to be thrown into the sea and be hunted, we will find them, wherever they are hiding, and we will throw them with great pleasure ourselves,” the MHP leader said.
The Greek newspaper reports that Bahcelii’s provocative remarks came at a ceremony celebrating the 94th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne.
The Treaty signed on July 24, 1923 officially settled the conflict that had originally existed between the Ottoman Empire and the Allied powers and established the current borders of modern Turkey.
Mr. Bahcelii said Greece violates “good neighborly relations” and singled out Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos for his recent visit to the eastern Aegean islands.
“The visit of the President of Greece to the Aegean islands that coincides with the Lausanne anniversary is provocative. Fifteen Aegean islands are held illegally and unfairly,” he said, according to Kathimerini.
