Workers in Greek Museums and Archaeological Sites Announce Strike for the Weekend

The federation of the Ministry of Culture employees (POE-YPPO) has announced a 48-hour strike for this weekend, and as a result museums and archaeological sites in Attica might be closed.
Yiannis Mavrikopoulos, president of POE-YPPO told Kathimerini newspaper that “the museums and archaeological sites will be closed if there is no response from the (Ministry of Culture) leadership.”
The union demands the immediate hiring of 33 archaeologists and 200 specialized antiquities guards to cover the needs of museums and archaeological sites.
POE-YPPO also has other demands such as resolving pending cases of the Expropriation of Archaeological Resources Fund and the Employee Solidarity Fund, along with safeguarding of the rights of workers in museums and archaeological sites such as cleaners and guards.
