A young brown bear was killed when she was hit by a vehicle on the road between Kolokynthos and Mesopotamia near Kastoria, in north-western Greece.
According to the environmental organization Arcturos, the accident may have happened during Wednesday night.
The animal managed to drag itself to the edge of the road where she died, as seen in this heartbreaking photo released by the organization.
Arctouros was alerted by a passing driver on Thursday, but its volunteers who rushed to the scene were unable to save the young bear.
Dozens of bears have been killed in Greece at road accidents in recent years. Arctouros estimates that there are 350-400 broan bears in the country.
