Naxos Tavern Owner Finds Clever Way to Protest Against Heavy Taxes, Austerity

A tavern owner on Naxos found an inventive way to protest against the heavy taxes and overall austerity imposed upon Greek people in the past seven years.
The businessman made his protest statement on the back of the menu, both in Greek and English, so that his customers are informed where the tax included in the prices goes.
The back of the menu reads: “Consumer must also be informed that the money the Greek government receives from the tax system is given to the banks to pay off a debt that they created alongside with the International Monetary Funds. We pay tax in order to live in poverty and unemployment, and watch the collapse of the public educational and health system. The dirty work is done by politicians who comply obediently to the policies of the rich and powerful. All these people and institutions who have created what they call “the economic crisis” demand from us to be lawful and pay our tax.”
