Three Wildfires Break Out in Zakynthos – Village Evacuated

A wildfire broke out at the village Anafonitria, in northern Zakynthos. The village is being evacuated after fire reached the front porches of some houses.
Ten firefighters with 5 vehicles, two water tanks, one aircraft and a PZL aircraft were deployed to contain the blaze. Strong winds are blowing in the area.
The village does not appear to be in danger for the time being, but the westerly winds are causing trouble for the firefighters in the area.
Two more wildfires broke out in the Ano Volima area of the island, about five kilometres west of the first Anafonitria fire front.
Firefighting forces on the island are dispersed in all three fire fronts, while helicopters have stopped pouring water because strong winds have made it impossible.
