Astonishing Photos of Athens circa 1917 go on Display

Rare photographs of Athens and its life a century ago will go on display for the first time in Greece at Benaki Museum.
The material comes from the French military archives, with photographs taken by two French soldiers turned photographers, who served with the French expeditionary force (Armée d’Orient) originally based in Thessaloniki during the First World War.
The exhibition, which will open on September 14, brings to light the forgotten neighborhoods of the city, street scenes from everyday life of its people, and reveals districts that disappeared due to urban changes, or archaeological excavations.
