UN Chief Says he Awaits Parties’ Agreement to Continue with his Good Offices in Cyprus

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres plans to continue with his “good offices” mission for a Cyprus settlement “as soon as the parties have an agreement for those ‘good offices’”, to be put in place.

(The term “good offices“; which is often used by The UN Secretary General, when meeting with world leaders, either publicly or privately, in order to prevent international disagreements from expanding or intensifying.)

Guterres was replying to a question by CNA regarding his prerequisites, in order to continue with his good offices mission for Cyprus, during a press conference on Wednesday, on the occasion of the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Asked about the release date of his good offices report on Cyprus, Gutteres said, moreover, that “we are still working on it”.
