Froneri Hellas Suspends Operations in Biggest Greek Ice-cream Factory

Froneri Hellas has announced the temporary suspension of operations of its ice cream factory in Tavros, downtown Athens, in an effort to redesign the loss-making company.
In an announcement, Froneri Hellas said it reached this decision due to prevailing adverse conditions in the market, combined with a general economic environment in the country.
It added that the company will offer an attractive voluntary retirement program to its 102 workers, along with private insurance and healthcare coverage for them and their families for a period of two years, along with services to return to the labour market.
Froneri Hellas said it will continue supplying the Greek market as usual, adding that the Greek ice cream market “is and will continue to be a priority for Froneri Hellas”.
It added that the company will proceed with the necessary changes in its operating and organizational structure to ensure its return to sustainable growth, changes that will allow it to become viable, controlling its costs and upgrading the supply chain towards the consumer in order to remain competitive in Greece.
With a new operating structure, the company will create a more flexible business form focusing on its marketing and sales operations and the improvement of its structure to be able to exploit more efficiently any opportunities arising in the Greek ice cream market in the future.
Froneri is a subsidiary of Froneri International Plc, a company with annual sales of around 2.6 billion euros with established activities in 22 countries around the world. It is a new company formed in October 2016 by Nestle and R&R.
