Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras congratulated Angela Merkel on her election victory on Sunday, with a message that he posted on Twitter.
“Congratulations to Angela Merkel on her victory in the German elections. A democratic Europe with solidarity is today more important and essential than ever. All of us that believe in [Europe] have an obligation, in spite of any differences, to work together to deepen and expand European values,” Tsipras said in his message on the German election results.
Leader of opposition New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said that the German election results “created a window of opportunity for bold changes in Europe.”
“Changes,” he added, “that will affect the life and security of the many, so that there are no citizens left on the sidelines.”
