Fierce Storm Causes Flooding, Landslides on the Island of Samothraki (video)


On Monday, a fierce storm hit the northern Aegean island of Samothraki (Samothrace).
Parts of the island have been flooded, and landslides have caused major disruption in the power grid, and road network.
The villages of Xiropotamos, Lakkoma, and Prophetis Elias, have been cut off from the rest of the island.

The municipality of Samothraki asked its citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, and announced that all schools in the island will remain closed on Tuesday.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
According to meteorologists almost 200 liters of rain per square meter were recorded in the time frame of two hours.
This much rain is normally recorded in Thessaloniki between the months of December to February.
