Kidnapped Greek Businessman Set Free After 6 Months in Captivity

Greek police in Crete stormed a hideout near the town of Rethymno, where the businessman Michalis Lempidakis was being held hostage for six months.
54-year-old Lempidakis was found tied up by his kidnappers.  He was apparently in good health.
According to reports, a number of arrests have been made as the businessman was reunited with his family.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 10 million Euros to set him free. The minister for Public Order Nikos Toskas said that no ransom was paid.
The kidnapping took place in March, on a road outside Herakleion. Two cars, that were later set on fire, were used by the kidnappers to cut their victim off.
Lempidakis, a Chemical Engineer, is managing Director and a major shareholder of the company Plastics Crete founded by his father.
He is a well-known businessman in Crete and his company exports to many countries around the world.
