Yanis Varoufakis revealed that his wife Danae Stratou was recording his discussions over the phone at the time when he was negotiating with Greeceās creditors in 2015.
In the Greek edition of his book “Adults in the Room”, and in the introduction section a “Note on Quoted Speech”, the former finance minister says that Danae videoed telephone conversations to keep record of what exactly was said.
Varoufakis writes:
“In a book of this nature, in which so much depends on who said what to whom, I have made every effort to ensure the accuracy of quoted speech.”
“To this end, I have been able to draw on audio recordings that I made on my phone and video recordings of my conversations that Danae Stratou made during the afternoon hours in our house”.
In the English edition of the book which was published last May, no reference to the role Danae played in secret recordings, is made.
