Prominent SYRIZA MEP Leaves Party

Kostas Chrysogonos, a prominent Member of the European Parliament for SYRIZA, left the party.

Chrysogonos leader of the Socialist Tendency within SYRIZA has announced his departure, citing disagreements over the general political direction of the governing party.

Members of the Socialist Tendency voted overwhelmingly to break clear of SYRIZA. Of the 2,032 total members, 1,678 (82,6%) voted in favour.

Chrysogonos is a professor of Constitutional Law. He joined forces with SYRIZA and ran for a European Parliament seat in 2014 European elections.

He has published 16 books, including the handbooks Constitutional Law and Private and Social Rights, which are used in Greek universities for teaching purposes, and more than 100 research papers in legal journals.
