A prosecution lawyer in the on-going Golden Dawn trial was attacked on Wednesday morning just outside Athens police headquarters (GADA).
The lawyer was punched in the face by what police and eyewitnesses say were Golden Dawn supporters distributing leaflets in the area.
The incident occurred on Alexandras Avenue as the lawyer, identified as Evgenia Kouniaki, was getting off a trolley bus accompanied by a female friend. The men approached the lawyer and repeatedly hit her on the head.
Kouniaki was visiting GADA where five protected witnesses were due to testify by video link at the special court in Korydallos prison near Piraeus, where the trial against Golden Dawn is being held.
Twenty five supporters of the extreme-right party who had been brought in for questioning after attacking and injuring the lawyer were later released, as the victims failed to recognize them.
