According to the Greek daily Ethnos, more than 130 Greek names appear to be linked to offshore companies and are included in the Paradise Papers.
The Paradise Papers include 13.4m files that compromise of details of how the world’s biggest businesses, heads of state and global figures in politics, entertainment and sport have sheltered their wealth in secretive tax havens.
The material, which has come from two offshore service providers and the company registries of 19 tax havens, was obtained by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and shared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
Among the Greek names mentioned in the files are persons associated with politicians, a large number of ship-owners, but also a major executive of a bank that participated in offshore companies.
Moreover, according to Ethnos, offshore companies that have received loans from Greek banks, have been identified.
In addition, names of Greek citizens that have either been involved in disputes with the tax authorities or have been investigated for tax evasion in Greece, have appeared in the Paradise Papers.
Most Greeks included in the lists are residing in Athens and Piraeus.
