The first Greek athlete to cross the finish line was Konstantinos Gkelaouzos, with a time of 02:27:21.

The women’s race was much tighter, with 18-year-old Ethiopian Bedaru Badane winning in 2:34:18, beating Kenya’s Alice Kibor Jepkemboi by four seconds. Last year’s winner, Nancy Arusei of Kenya, was third in 2:34:51.

Thousands of people lined up on the streets to watch the race as 18,500 runners from around the world followed the footsteps of the legendary soldier Pheidippides on the historic and tough 42km course.
