FM Kotzias Presents Draft Resolution for Journalists Safety in UN

Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Kotzias, submitted before the United Nations, along with other countries, a resolution aiming at protecting journalists.
The resolution on “The Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity” builds on the relevant Resolution 70/162 adopted by the UN General Assembly on 17 December 2015 and the subsequent Secretary General’s Report A/72/290.
Greece would like to inform partners that, together with Argentina, Austria, Costa Rica, France and Tunisia, will table again the Resolution on ‘The Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity’ at the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly”, said the Greek Foreign ministry announcement.
The Greek initiative comes after the shocking warning that every week two journalists; worldwide, lose their lives in the line of duty.
According to the report, during 2012-2016, 530 journalists were murdered worldwide. “Greece invites UN partners to participate in discussions in New York and looks forward to receiving the same broad support and co-sponsorship as last year,” the announcement concludes.
