Every night, Athens changes outfit. While daylight in town usually brings a dose of culture, art, and archeological sites, after sunset the atmosphere is very different. They say that crisis can have two different outcomes. It either crushes people’s souls, or it boosts their creativity. The outcome in Athens is very exciting.
Just like in Ancient times, the Greeks enjoy all forms of entertainment. No crisis will ever stop that, and the nights in Athens prove it.

New alternative spaces keep spreading around the city with cutting-edge aesthetics. There are coffee houses and pubs, but also terraces, secret gardens, and old factories. Any place is OK to party and to send the blues of the crisis away. Let’s take a look at the best places to visit in Athens by night.

1. Bartesera

A bar with a rather classy atmosphere that serves cocktails with a twist. Music is good and snacks are tasty. Time goes by as if you were in the comfort of your own living room.
25, Kolokotroni st.

2. Artizan Bistrot

Relaxed atmosphere for this bar that also opens for breakfast and lunch. A very friendly staff serves dinner, drinks and a wide variety of coffees too.

3. Booze Cooperativa

In the same area, Booze Cooperativa displays different spaces and play zones in one building. Bizarre decorations and interesting architecture come together with seminars and other cultural activities.

4. Drunk Sinatra

This is a classic of the Athenian nights and it’s always crowded. Cool cocktails are paired with hits from the 70’s. At drunk Sinatra is not always easy to find a table after 10 pm.

5. The Holiday Bar

Also known as Noel, this place is pure magic from the moment you step in. Thousands of clocks hang from everywhere while huge mirrors double the effect.
The Holiday Bar serves great dishes but also tempting sweets and cakes. Probably the most popular place in town right now.

6. Poems n’ Crimes Art Bar

A pretty café and bookstore that offers very tasty dishes. Poems n’ Crimes is also home to a local publishing house. It doesn’t stay open late, but it’s ok for a cup of coffee and a very quite atmosphere. In summer, try their open space.

7. Six D.O.G.S.

Follow the steps going down into this unexpected garden. Underground trees, sand floors, and open spaces that nothing have to do with the Athens you are leaving behind. Plenty of candles and the tastiest lemonade in the city.
6-8, Avramiotou st.

8. Taf The Art Foundation

Taf used to be a detention center and it has managed to kept most of that scary scenario. The central patio functions as a bar, while the rest of the place is a multicultural space. Former torture cells are now rooms for interactive art experienced through sound and images. Signature cocktails mix with jazz, soul and funky music.

Right next to Taf, but more traditional, this roof top bar allows for amazing views of the Acropolis. Take the elevator to reach one of the trendy terraces of Athens. Have a light dinner or enjoy one of the many creative drinks. Try the loukoumades, Greek doughnuts drenched in honey syrup… delicious!

Probably the most photographed alley in the city, Pittaki street, hosts a charming space that seems to have fallen out of a fairy tale. The Little Kook is, at the same time, a tea house and a night bar. This venue, reminder of Alice in Wonderland, serves the best cupcakes in town.
