Trade Board: Moderate 2-2.5% Rise in Christmas Sales

Sales rose by 2.0-2.5% over Christmas, not in the double digits, president of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) Vassilis Korkidis wrote in a tweet he posted.
“Anyone who thinks Christmas turnover came to a utopian 20-25% is probably missing the decimal point, since 2.0-2.5% is more realistic,” he noted.
“The (aforementioned) percentages are nonexistent in the Greek market, and if they did exist, it would constitute a Christmas miracle,” he added.
Stores will be open every evening again, without break, throughout the week, while on Sunday they will be open until 6:00 p.m., with larger stores and malls extending opening hours to 7 or 8 p.m., depending on individual company decisions.
Stores will be closed on New Year’s Day, and on the following day, January 2, when store owners traditionally balance their yearly sheets.
