SYRIZA's Political Council Says Party Agrees on Composite Name for FYROM

SYRIZA’s political council said it supports the government’s efforts to utilize the opportunity to find a solution on the name dispute with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), according to a party press release on Friday.
The statement follows a meeting of the political council chaired by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
“SYRIZA is firmly committed to a mutually acceptable solution for a composite name for all uses. The upgrading of the country’s geopolitical position and the consolidation of stability, democracy and peace in the wider Balkan region are the overriding goals of the government and the party, in the context of an active and multidimensional foreign policy,” the party said.
The political council also discussed the preparations for the party’s parliamentary committee meeting, possibly on January 19-20.
