The Athenian cultural scene is not only about permanent museum exhibitions every tourist makes time to visit in town. In fact, 2018 begins with a rich panorama of temporary exhibitions that will definitely tease the curiosity of locals and visitors alike. Here are five interesting appointments people should definitely make in Athens during the first months of the year.

Trinity Metallogues

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Eleni Marneri Gallery presents three different exhibitions focusing on the several aspects of manufacturing and designing artistic jewellery.


You can visit the exhibit until February 28.

Money: Tangible Symbols in Ancient Greece

This exhibition of ancient coins showcases the role money used to have in Ancient Greece. In the late 7th century BC, the first coins were minted in several Greek cities of Asia Minor and from there spread to the rest of the Greek world. The exhibition, in collaboration with the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, features over 80 coins and more than 150 other artifacts. Visit until 15 April 2018 at Museum of Cycladic Art, 4 Neofytou Douka, Athens.

Ancient Chinese Science and Technology

The Herakleidon Museum exhibits 90 different objects belonging to the ancient Chinese civilization, among which astronomical instruments, plows and early seismographs that have been loaned by the China Science and Technology Museum of Beijing. The exhibition covers discoveries, Chinese innovations and achievements in many different scientific fields. Visit until 29 April 2018 at Herakleidon Museum, 37 Apostolou Pavlo St. Thiseio.

There will be no silence; art turns into an interactive experience that visitors won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Van Gogh Alive – The Experience promises to stretch the definition of the word ‘exhibition’, stimulating the senses and opening the mind in a space full of light and sound where nobody will get bored: enchanting, entertaining and educational.

Visit at Megaron Mousikis-Athens Concert Hall, Vasilissis Sofias & Kokkali. Exhibit ends March 4.

Russian Religious Art in Greece
