A 36-year-old man from the island of Salamis, south of Athens was arrested Monday on charges relating to sexual offences against his six-year-old-daughter.
Doctors treating the young girl at Aglaia Kyriakou pediatric hospital alerted police on suspicion she had been raped. It is reported she was transferred to an Athenian hospital where she underwent surgery
Reports claim the suspect was at the hospital during the surgery, even inquiring about its outcome, but disappeared when doctors asked to interview him.
The man, originally from Albania, has denied the charges. The suspect will remain in custody in the Peloponnesian city of Tripoli until his trial.
