Wild Bears Startle Greek City

To clap eyes on one bear in Greece would be something to write home about, but motorists near the northern city of Kastoria were startled by a pair of young bear cubs on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses quoted by the Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA), the two animals were seen wandering at ease by a lake on the outskirts of the city.
Clearly unfazed by humans, the two bears stood and stared, as people stopped their cars to take pictures.

A wildlife rescue team, working with police and conservationists, mounted an operation to transfer the bears to a nearby mountain.
AMNA quoted Nikos Panagiotopoulos, an associate of bear conservationist group Arcturos in Kastoria, saying their pair was four years old and born near the lake.
However, members of the public have been warned against approaching the animals.
