Cypriot Leader: We are Working Closely with Greece

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades

Recently re-elected Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has said his country is “working closely” with Greece on its relations with Turkey and its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Anastasiades, in a Friday interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, said he remained determined to continue dialogue on domestic issues but a new conference on resolving the Cyprus conflict required “good preparation”.
He also said that Cyprus supported Greece and would stand by Athens after the end of the country’s bailout in August this year.
Referring to the FYROM name issue, he said: “It is not only a political issue, it is a national issue that touches the hearts of the Greeks.” At the same time, he noted that it was a matter “that needs to be handled by Greece itself.”
