Hellenic Police on Saturday arrested a man smuggling migrants after a car chase, as the man refused to stop on a routine road block on the old Thessaloniki-Kavala national highway.
Police said the 39-year-old refused to stop when a patrolman waved for him to stop for a road check. The man speeded away and a car chase ensued.
When the perpetrator’s car was blocked by patrol cars on the Thessaloniki ringroad, the man let seven migrants out of his vehicle and tried to run away on foot before he was arrested.
After arresting the man, police rounded up the seven migrants and took them in custody. The driver of the car is to appear before the Thessaloniki prosecutor. He faces charges of people smuggling and resisting arrest.
