Evangelos Antonaros, who had served the party as government spokesperson during the Kostas Karamanlis administration, wrote on Facebook that Georgiadis must resign because his name is on the Novartis case list and because of his behavior.
The case of the pharmaceuticals giant and allegations that former top government officials — including two prime ministers — were receiving bribes has shaken Greece’s political world.
The former New Democracy spokesman also called Georgiadis “sexist” after a comment he made on a female SYRIZA female lawmaker in a television discussion about the Novartis case. Antonaros also implied that Georgiadis was too right-wing for New Democracy.
After Mitsotakis expelled him from the conservative party, Antonaros challenged the party leader’s decision and continued his attack, asking for the pertinent party bodies to convene to decide whether he should be expelled or not.
