Turkish Jets Violate Greek Airspace 42 Times on Monday

Turkish military provocations in the Aegean intensified on Monday as Turkish jets violated Greek airspace on 42 occasions.
The airspace incursions were conducted by two armed F-16 fighters and two CN-235 naval co-operation and electronic warfare planes.
Athens says that the Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek fighters in accordance with international rules.
Although airspace violations are almost a daily routine, military sources in Athens express concern over their escalation.
Thirty-three Turkish aircraft violated Greek airspace and broke international aviation rules in the first 12 days of February, more than a third of the same number for January alone.
As well as airspace incursions, Turkish ships have been in almost weekly contact with Greek craft or have intruded upon Greek waters.
Military data reveals almost 2,000 incursions by Turkish forces into Greek waters in 2017, with 290 taking place in May alone.
