Greek Tax Office to Seize Debtors' Bank Accounts, Safety Deposit Boxes

A million Greek taxpayers with debts to the state could see their bank accounts and deposits raided.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) plan for 2018 will also see more than 200,000 audits of corporations, companies, small businesses, bars, restaurants, professionals and wealthy individuals.
Extensive checks will be given to fuel and tobacco companies in an effort to curb smuggling.
The aim is to secure €3.2 billion ($3.9 billion) by the end of the year, while outstanding debts in 2018 are expected to reach €6 billion.
Revenue targets are higher than last year, as tax evasion has increased due to the implementation of higher taxation and an increase in contributions.
