Lesvos' Top 5 Beaches

The island of Lesvos — Greece’s third-largest — remains a strong draw for international tourists, with pre-booking data from Germany, Russia and Denmark suggesting visitors are still planning to visit the Aegean this year.
Lesvos itself, due to its size, offers a range of scenic views and cultural riches but it is the island’s beaches which are still the main draw for thousands of guests.
Here Greek Reporter lists the top five Lesvos beaches:
Vatera, at 9 kilometers (5.5 miles), the longest sandy beach on the island. With one half dominated by bars, cafes and restaurants and the remainder left to nature, it offers something for everyone.

Eresos is one of the most cosmopolitan beaches the island has to offer. About 85 kilometers from the capital, Mytilene, it is a firm favorite with people of all cultures and attracts visitors from all over the world. Located on the island’s south-west, Eresos beach is basically an extension of the village and has an array of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and art stores.

Tarti is located at the foot of a green hill and remains a strong draw for visitors, especially because of the huge array of seafood available in traditional tavernas close to the waters.

Petra beach in the north of the island is one of the few places visitors can try their hand at diving. Home to one of Lesvos’ diving clubs, it offers underwater adventures for thrill-seekers. For those wanting a more sedate experience, the water is often the warmest on the island’s northern coast and its beach is fully equipped for a lazy day in the sun.
Petra

Anaxos is a just kilometers from Petra but offers a long, shallow sandy beach which is perfect for families. With a creek on its western side, and plenty of bars and tavernas, it is a perfect place to relax with a view of the nearby village of Molyvos on offer.

Where to stay
Greek reporter recommends for your stay at Theofilos Paradise Boutique Hotel situated in the heart of the old Mytilene town – the capital of Lesvos island – and only a breath away from the harbor and the busy main market.
Theofilos Paradise Boutique Hotel is an old traditional mansion that dates from the 19th century.
The main building was restored with extraordinary attention to details and with respect to the surroundings that compliment it. It then was paired with two adjoining buildings that follow a more minimal and modern aesthetic.
The result is a graceful, luxurious hotel with 24 rooms and perfectly balances between the baroque and contemporary style.
