The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia government has taken down “Alexander the Great” signs and a statue depicting the Greek hero from Skopje’s main airport as part of talks with Greece on the naming issue.
On Wednesday, workers took down the statue of Alexander the Great from the arrivals lounge of the recently renamed Skopje airport while in previous days the airports sign and all road signs pointing to the airport were also removed.

The statue was raised in 2011 by Turkish company TAV that has handled operations at Skopje airport since 2010. The airport was named “Alexander the Great” in 2016 by then FYROM Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
A FYROM national highway named “Alexander of Macedonia” has been renamed and all existing signs have been taken down.
