Turkish Nationalists Hit Out at Greece After Flag Burning

Leader of the Turkish nationalist BBP party, Mustafa Destici

“The Turkish flag that was burnt… will be flying in Athens again,” the chief of a Turkish nationalist party has claimed.
The Great Unity Party (BBP)’s Mustafa Destici was referring to a Golden Dawn demonstration in Athens on Monday, at which a Turkish flag was set on fire.
Destici condemned the act and called on the Greek government to arrest the perpetrators because they offended and humiliated Turkey.
“What we say to the Greeks and the Greek government is to remember that, not long ago, the glorious red flag with the crescent was flying in their lands. With the help of God, this flag that was attacked and burnt will be flying again in Athens,” Destici said.
The BBP chief also demanded Greece extradite what he called “terrorists” to Turkey.
Meanwhile, an organization called them Foundation for Ethics in Art and Science held a rally outside the Greek embassy in Ankara, protesting the burning of the Turkish flag in Athens.
The demonstrators made incendiary statements and held banners, with one of them reading: “We are ready to throw you in the sea again.”
A statement read: “We want to make it known all over the world that we, as young Turks, will give the toughest response, if necessary, against racist and fascist approaches aimed at the Turkish Republic.
“We will do everything we can to prove that we will even give our lives to protect and maintain our flag that our dead heroes have kept flying with their blood.”
Turkish police blocked the demonstrators from entering the Greek embassy.
