Turkey, FYROM to Dominate US Offical’s Athens Visit

Ongoing tension in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean are to form the backdrop of a visit to Athens by a Trump administration official later this week.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wes Mitchell will be in the Greek capital on Thursday as part of a regional tour which will not include Turkey.

However, the U.S. official will also travel to Skopje, whose membership of the NATO alliance and the EU remains blocked over the name dispute with Greece.

Mitchell, a political analyst as well as a government official, was confirmed in his post in September last year.
