Infamous for boozy Brits making headlines for all the wrong reasons, the Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa is now calling time on U.K. tour operators who send “misbehaving” travelers to their town.
In a letter to tour operators and the British media, Mayor Yiannis Karousos says the municipality is on the “path of turning Ayia Napa into the best and most cosmopolitan tourist resort of the Mediterranean”.
However he adds: “Currently, there is a type of tourism product which is not in line with our future strategy and our vision.
“[They are] organized youth who misbehave, do not respect the laws of Cyprus, and with their actions create negative publicity and actually do damage the reputation of the brand name,” Karousos said.
