Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Tuesday called for Turkey to respect international law, as relations between Athens and Ankara reach their lowest point in some years.
Pavlopoulos was speaking after a meeting with visiting Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. He said Ankara must “fully respect” the law if it wanted to join the European Union.
Ties between Turkey and Greece have deteriorated sharply in recent months over repeated airspace incursions by Turkish warplanes, plus provocations in the Aegean.
Two Greek soldiers are currently in a Turkish prison after mistakenly crossing the border into Turkey on March 1.
