Greek Soldiers Set to Spend Easter in Turkish Jail

The two Greek soldiers arrested on March, 1 for straying into Turkish territory will spend the Orthodox Easter at a jail in the town of Edirne in Turkey.
On Good Friday, the parents of the two men are scheduled to see their children for the fifth time since the beginning of this ordeal.
Prior to meeting with their children, they will meet with officials and lawyers at the Greek consulate to be briefed on recent developments.
A Turkish court has rejected two requests for the release of the soldiers. Up until now, no trial has been set nor has the indictment been finalized.
Over the last week, Greece has escalated its criticism against Turkey, implying that Ankara is seeking political benefit from the prolonged detention of the two soldiers.
On Tuesday, premier Alexis Tsipras appealed to President Erdogan to intervene so as to speed up procedures and asked that Turkey release the soldiers as a goodwill gesture.
A day earlier, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos speculated that their detainment may last up to 15 years.
In comments that angered Ankara, Kammenos said that “in a country where justice operates under the orders of the Sultan the case may drag on for 15 years.”
