Man Arrested for Abusing Dog in Central Greece


A man was arrested for abusing a dog near Larissa, central Greece, on Easter Sunday.
The incident took place in the town of Sykourio, where the perpetrator hit a puppy with a crow bar on its head.
According to reports, a passer by intervened and alerted the police who rushed to the scene and arrested the man.
An immediate fine of €30,000 was imposed.
The man, who has not been named, was released on bail and will face charges on animal cruelty.
The animal was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a local animal shelter.
Cases of animal abuse are common in Greece, despite tough legislation.
Last month, video footage showing two Greek soldiers tormenting a dog before throwing it off a cliff had shocked the public.
