The leader of Turkey’s ultra-right MHP party Devlet Bahceli on Tuesday launched a stinging attack on Greece’s defense minister Panos Kammenos saying that he should be “visiting a clinic”.
Speaking at a party conference, Bahceli singled out Kammenos who has adopted a combative stance towards Turkey and has recently announced the transfer of thousands of soldiers to Greece’s borders with its eastern neighbor.
Bahceli accused Kammenos of grinding his teeth, but warned that Turkey will respond to any provocation.
“We will pull out the teeth of all those who are grinding them,” he was quoted as saying.
“If [Kammenos] is asleep, he should wake up. If he is going through a hysteria crisis, he should be visiting a clinic,” Bahceli added.
The Turkish politician’s comments follow an incident at the eastern Aegean on Monday when a Turkish helicopter flew ‘lights-out’ close to Greek airspace, according to the prime minister’s office.
Last month, Bahceli, an ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited one of his favorite topics: throwing Greeks into the sea.
Hitting out at Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for suggesting that Greece is not afraid of an incident in the Aegean he said:
“The sea is full of the grandfathers of those who speak with such empty words.”
