New Developments in Case of Brutally Murdered Couple in Cyprus

Police say new developments in the investigation of the couple that was murdered in Nicosia show that there were no signs of breaking and entering or burglary.
In the autopsy, which lasted for several hours, the 60-year-old man was found to have suffered 25-30 knife wounds and the 59-year-old woman was stabbed 10 times, according to a Kathimerini newspaper report.
The couple was found dead in the bedroom of their home in Strovolos at one in the morning. The man was a private school teacher and the woman was a bank employee.
According to Kathimerini, the police did not find any signs of anything missing and there are suspicions that it was a hate crime rather than the result of attempted burglary.
The 15-year-old son of the Russian-born couple told neighbors that he was in the house when unknown persons wearing hoods entered and stabbed his parents to death.
According to people who knew the family, the 15-year-old was told by his biological parents that he was adopted. The teenager accused his parents for not telling him that he was adopted and there was tension in the family.
Another piece of evidence in the police investigation is that recently the murdered couple had appointed the 15-year-old as heir of their wealth.
Police are further investigating if there is a correlation between the fact that he was appointed the couple’s heir and the timing his biological parents told him that he was adopted.
