Lewd Picture of Bride and Groom Causes Cancellation of 300 Weddings in Rhodes

About 300 out of 700 scheduled weddings at the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of St. Paul in Lindos, Rhodes have been canceled after the publicity generated over a lewd picture of newlyweds.
According to Rhodes news website dimokratiki.gr, the cancellations began after the Holy Metropolis of Rhodes prohibited wedding ceremonies in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of St. Paul because of the picture of the couple that became viral on the internet last summer.
“About 700 weddings were scheduled for this season. So far we have had about 300 cancellations,” the president of the Lindos municipal community, Giorgos Eleftheriou told dimokratiki.gr. Unfortunately, he added, mass cancellations by tour operators were not avoided despite the alternative offered.
The picturesque chapel of St. Paul attracts hundreds of romantic couples from around the world every year. In order to preserve that, the Rhodes Municipality decided to put a floating platform that has the St. Paul Chapel in the background and does not spoil the natural scenery.
