AEK Crowned Greece's Football Champion after 24 Years

AEK Athens and millions of fans worldwide celebrated on Sunday the first league championship in 24 years, and 12th overall, as it leads by eight points to second PAOK, with only two games left in the season.
Despite the fact that the pending sports court decision on the abandoned game between PAOK and AEK on March 11 is not finalized yet after the appeal of PAOK, there is optimism in the Athens club that they are the champions. PAOK disputes the title as final until the appeals court decides.
That didn’t stop players and staff along with 60,000 fans, to celebrate wildly  at the Olympic Stadium of Athens, after AEK beat Levadiakos 2-0 with Tasos Bakasetas scoring both goals.
AEK is still in the running for a double, as on May 12 it will face PAOK in the Greek Cup final that will take place at the Olympic Stadium of Athens.
PAOK, on the other hand, beat Xanthi 2-1 at home without their fans, as the club had been penalized after the interrupted game with AEK, following the incident of owner Ivan Savvidis storming the pitch with his bodyguards while carrying a handgun.
