Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has reportedly told the Greek cabinet the country will hit financial targets ahead, days after international creditors agreed with Athens a program of economic reforms.
According to media reports, Tsipras also said Greece will not see a fiscal gap in 2018 or 2019.
On Saturday, a European Commission statement claimed said a staff-level accord had been reached.
“The Greek authorities aim to implement these measures as swiftly as possible in advance of the Euro group of 21 June 2018,” it added.
“After so many difficult years, efforts and sacrifices, Greece is finally on the home stretch,” EU commissioner Pierre Moscovici said.
Tsipras, presenting a four-year post-bailout strategy on Monday, insisted Greece would cut taxes and increase social spending in coming years.
However, hundreds of pensioners took to the streets of Athens last week to demonstrate against cuts to their pensions and health benefits.
Unions are also planning strike action on May 30. The General Confederation of Greek Labor, which represents over 80 individual unions, will instruct its members to down tools and will be joined by public-sector staff represented by the ADEDY union as well members of the Panhellenic Seamen’s Union.
Activists say the action is being called in protest against austerity measures imposed on the Greek people.
