Several events are currently taking place in Crete on the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. For the week of June 2 to June 5, the Center for Mediterranean Architecture of Chania will be hosting the exhibition “Sustainable Cultural Heritage”

The international interdisciplinary ERASMUS project InHeriT supports cultural heritage as a generator of sustainable development. The exhibition is part of the architectural project “Reuse and Adaptation” and it sees the participation of ten architectural schools and creative groups from Greece, Cyprus, and the United Arab Emirates.

Different institutions also take part in the initiative, including the National Kapodistrean University of Athens, Middlesex University, Neapolis University of Paphos, Maniatakeion Foundation, Fondazione Flaminia, the Center for Mediterranean Architecture and the Technical University of Crete.

The program includes the 3rd International Local Seminar “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Local Development” from May 29 to June 2 which include workshops with the local government in the schedule.

The project also presents a two-day conference with two modules: One about “Architectural Studies and Sustainability”, on June 3, and the second under the name of “The Economy of Culture”, on June 4.

Prominent representatives of the academic, business and professional spheres of culture and economy will attend to discuss the economic value of culture and heritage.

The Sustainable Cultural Heritage Week has been selected by the European Commission and the European Parliament as an international event in relation with the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
